How to Get a Divorce In Michigan?
Michigan is a purely no-fault divorce state, meaning that there is no need to prove any reasons or grounds such as adultery or abuse in order to get a divorce. However, fault can come into play when dividing marital property or when one party asks for spousal support or alimony. To file for divorce in Michigan, at least one of the parties (either husband or wife) must have resided in the state of Michigan for 180 days immediately preceding the filing of the Complaint and at least one of the parties must have resided in the county in which the Complaint was filed for a minimum of 10 days prior to filing.
